For years, Marquita and Ginny were employed by the owner of LightWork, a local Sacramento specialty camera store. Their experience at LightWork prepared them for the next challenge of being entrepreneurs of their own camera store. They attribute their success to the mentoring example of their former employer, Jeff Redman.
In 1997, when Lightwork closed, they took the chance and started Camera/Arts with another Lightwork associate. From humble beginnings, through hard work, and a core of great, loyal customers they have more than doubled the size of the original store.
In February 2006 Marquita and Ginny purchased the remaining partner's share of the business and remodeled the store inside and out. This website is just another aspect of that design intention.
In the camera industry, it is rare to have a store owned entirely by women (as far as we know there are only a handfull in the U.S.). Marquita, Ginny and their staff work hard to create an atmosphere that is comfortable for all of their customers; from the expert to the aspiring novice.
